analysis of william shakespeare's poem "Sigh No More Ladies"

Sigh No More, Ladies

Sigh no more, ladies, sigh no more,
Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
To one thing constant never.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.

Sing no more ditties, sing no mo
Of dumps so dull and heavy;
The fraud of men was ever so,
Since summer first was leavy.
Then sigh not so,
But let them go,
And be you blithe and bonny,
Converting all your sounds of woe
Into Hey nonny, nonny.

The Unsteady of Men in William Shakespeare’s Poem “Sigh No More, Ladies”

In this poem, William Shakespeare wrote his opinions about men and how they treat every woman. William said in his poem that men will always deceive and never constant to one thing, as it seen;
Men were deceivers ever;
One foot in sea, and one on shore,
To one thing constant never. (M.H Abrams, 1962, page 633)
Based on the sentences above we can see that, William try to tell everyone, especially woman, to do not believe in a man. A man will just leave a broken heart for a woman at the end. All of men, at the first time when they fall in love to a woman, will do everything for somebody they love. They will hardly try to make a woman believe in their flattery; but it just temporary feeling and the woman will be so hopeless at the end when they say that they had somebody else to love.
William said in his poem that mourns for a man is a wasteful thing. It will just leave nothing useful for a woman, so that women have to struggle and let them go. There is no time to cry of a man who leaves a woman with a broken heart; as it seen in sentence; “Then sigh not so “(M.H Abrams, 1962, page 633). By the sentence; “But let them go” (M.H Abrams, 1962, page 633) William also try persuade every woman to let a man, who just tell a lie, go and forget everything about him.
In conclusion, this poem is actually is intended for woman. William Shakespeare thought that women will be so loss if they trust a man by the entire of their heart. Because William knows, as a man, that male will always betray their love whenever they found another love. Men will easily leave a woman to get another one without thinking that they have been so egoistic and selfish. They never notice that they have been hurt a woman off by how they treat her.
